The Companion Trees
Sixty-five smaller Companion Trees provided by New Mexico tree growers and donated by various vendors will be distributed among several Washington, D.C. government offices including: New Mexico Delegation offices, the Supreme Court, Department of Agriculture, Department of Interior, the National Arboretum, the Botanical Garden, U.S. Senate and more. We are inviting community groups, organizations, artisans and Native American groups, as well as individuals, to create and donate up to 2,000 ornaments for these trees (smaller in size than for the large tree).
Criteria for the Companion Tree ornaments include:
- Reflect the theme: "A Gift from the Land of Enchantment" and/or reflect New Mexico 's rich cultural heritage, agriculture, wildlife, historical or natural resources;
- Be 5-to-8 inches in size, and have wire attached for hanging (appropriate for indoor use);
- Use reflective, colorful materials;
- Ornament should be three-dimensional or double-sided for best viewing.
